All the latest news at Les Gets

What’s new in Les Gets for Winter 2023?

It may only be the end of August, but excitement levels are already high for the impending winter season. And in Les Gets, which is part of the 500km Portes du Soleil ski area, there’s no shortage of new activities, initiatives and developments to keep your entire ski group entertained during Winter 2023.

Montreux Comedy Goes Skiing

The famous Montreux Comedy Festival takes up residence in Les Gets between 14th and 21st January 2023, guaranteeing the sound of laughter across the valley. Famous comedians from both the British and French stand-up scene will take to the stage, delivering jokes and their unique sense of humour to a lively crowd. This brand new event sees French comedians such as Gérémy Crédeville join the line-up on 17th and 18th January, followed by their English-speaking counterparts, including Tom Houghton on 19th and 20th January. The Salle de la Colombière in the centre of the village will play host to this event and we’re expecting a number of exciting fridge events in venues around Les Gets to compliment the festival. Discover more at montreuxcomedyfaitduski.com.

Introducing Wooden Ski Passes

Holiday makers using the Les Gets winter and summer lift network combine to use a staggering 40,000 plastic lift passes each year. Of course they can be recharged and reused each season, but Les Gets, always future-facing, have taken this one step further. Wooden lift passes will reduce the plastic consumption of the resort, in line with the village’s ecotourism philosophy. We’re promised a chic, discreet and practical credit card-sized lift pass and we’re looking forward to recommending them to our Alpine Residences guests this winter.

A Year-Round Alpine Rollercoaster

Les Gets is a resort with four seasons tourism at its heart and the thrilling Alta Lumina experience is testament to this. Over the next 12 months the resort will take this one step further, constructing a year-round toboggan run in the Perrières sector of the resort, which is very close to our new Kangto residence, currently in development. The Les Gets Alpine Coaster will include 35 sledges, which descend on a journey of almost six minutes along 714 metres of track, with a difference in altitude of 105 metres. The thrills are almost imaginable! We think this will be an excellent addition to Les Gets’ already packed list of activities and we’re excited to take a ride!

An Unforgettable Inuit Experience

If you like to try something different during your winter holiday, you’ll love this authentic trip. One hour before nightfall, you’ll leave the village for the first stage of a cani-hiking trip, accompanied by teams of sled dogs. You’ll ascend towards the traditional hamlet of Mont Caly, perched high above the rooftops of Les Gets, with the village lights twinkling below. You may be so distracted, you’ll miss the exceptional vista of Mont Blanc in the distance. Equipped with headlamps, you’ll enjoy racing in your teams under the careful guidance of a highly experienced musher. This is a truly memorable holiday experience which takes between an hour and a half to two hours to complete.

A Blissful Apres Ski

Within our Kinabalu residence you’ll discover the calming, chic, zen space that is Sapana Spa. Designed to relax you from the moment you pass through the door, our in-house spa is the perfect place to warm your muscles and soothe away any aches and pains after a challenging day on the slopes. This winter season our expert therapists have perfected their range of treatments to include massages, facials and customised sessions. Les Gets is an excellent choice of resort during the winter season, whether you’re travelling as a couple, a group of friends or as a family. Our prestigious residences in the resort are perfectly appointed within metres of the nearest ski lift and you’ll discover our in-house restaurants, wellness area and ski shop make the perfect base for your ski holiday.

What’s New in Les Gets for Winter 2019 / 20

Les Gets is one of our absolute favourite ski resorts because it has a little bit of everything. Tree-lined, family friendly slopes; easy access the Les Portes du Soleil, one of the world’s largest ski areas; an excellent selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets; a charming, traditional village atmosphere, and to top it all off it’s just over an hour away from Geneva Airport. So what’s new in Les Gets this winter? We’re excited to inform you that the answer is quite a lot! Read on to find out.

Intermediate skier and snowboarders will be able to enjoy a new blue slope down to Les Perrieres. Image: V Ducrettet / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

New Pistes

Residents of our K2 apartments will be happy about this! Les Gets is always endeavouring to improve its slopes, and the resort team has been busy this summer building a new blue run in the Perrières sector of the ski area. The new piste will take skiers and snowboarders to the bottom of the Perrières chairlift and the Perrières car park. This is a popular area of Les Gets as it provides direct access to the ski area for anyone staying at the far end of town, as well as those driving from further down the valley. This new blue run will be a welcome addition for beginner and intermediate skiers, who would previously have had to return via a red.

For those who want a little extra fitness and fresh air, there will also be a new ski touring piste over on Mont Chèry. Perfect for beginner and experienced tourers alike, this new slope will be reserved for going uphill only, starting from the base of the gondola and finishing at the summit of Mont Chèry.

New snowmaking facilities in progress in Les Gets.

New Snowmaking Facilities

Les Gets has made heavy investments in its snowmaking facilities for the coming winter, ensuring that the most popular areas of the resort will be accessible right from the word go. The €7 million project consists of the new Renardière hillside reservoir and new snow cannons covering high-traffic pistes. The reservoir has the capacity to provide enough water for 150,000m³ of snow, while new snow cannons will expand the area of artificial snow coverage from 35% to 50% – that’s an increase of almost half. Les Gets plans to continue the project over future years, which will result in snow cannon coverage over 75% of the resort. This is currently the largest investment in snowmaking in France and Les Gets have taken pains to make the project as environmentally friendly as possible.

Les Gets is all about family fun. Image: Keno Derleyn / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

A Snowy Play Area for Kids

Les Gets is known by many as a family-friendly resort, and even holds a ‘Famille Plus’ certification to prove it. This winter the resort introduces le Bankids, a snowy play area for little ones aged between two and six. This mini North Pole includes a snow-ball wall, ice caves, igloos and more to help kids make the most of the snow. While your littlest ones are generally too small to ski all day, at le Bankids they’ll be able to carry on having outdoor fun and learn to appreciate the snow in all its forms. You’ll find this winter wonderland ideally located behind the Les Gets Mairie and next to the ESF nursery slopes, and it’ll be open seven days a week throughout the winter.

Les Gets offers amazing views of Mont Blanc. Image: G Piel / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

‘In to the Void’ Views from Le Ranfoilly

This winter Les Gets is introducing a new viewing platform at the top of the Ranfoilly chairlift, and you can even get your picture taken! The 27m² platform extends out from the top of Les Gets’ highest peak and looks over the Lac de Joux Plane, as well as the breath-taking Mont Blanc. You can also make the most of the automated camera on the platform; just scan your lift pass and it’ll take a photo of you and your ski buddies, complete with the iconic view in the background. You can even upload the photos directly to your social media.

P.S. Look out for a new webcam at the top of Le Ranfoilly this winter, too. It’ll provide panoramic views over the entire resort so you can see how the weather and snow conditions are looking before you hit the slopes.

Fancy a picnic? Image: Keno Derleyn / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

A Luxury Picnic Area on the Slopes

Looking for a sheltered and cosy spot to eat your snacks, enjoy a home-made lunch or have a quick warm-up before getting out on the slopes again? Well, look no further, as this year Les Gets has invested in a luxury picnic area. This excellent addition to the resort will come kitted out with barbecues, charging points and even WiFi – and it’s available to everyone. Skiers and snowboarders will find it where blue run Violettes and red run Rhodos meet, while pedestrians can access it via the Chavannes gondola and the Belvédére des Nauchets walking trail. Happy picnicking!

Treat your kids to an authentic dog sledding experience. Image: V Ducrettet / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

Husky Sledding for Kids

Give your kids an experience they’ll never forget; this winter musher Didier will be offering dog sled rides for children aged between two and twelve. Didier and his seven Nordic dogs will take kids on a 25-minute ride from Mont Chèry over to the alpages on Mont Caly, which aren’t accessible by road in the winter. This authentic experience will give kids a chance to interact with the dogs, and enjoy the stunning views of Mont Blanc and Les Gets village – definitely one not to be missed!

If you’re thinking of coming to visit Les Gets this winter, we have an excellent range of luxurious chalets and apartments to offer you during your stay – view the collection HERE. And if you think you might like to make Les Gets your second home, we also have a range of properties for sale, which you can view HERE.

From wine recommendations to local knowledge, they really know their stuff! One of the highlights has been regular jazz nights, with performances from local singer, Tania Ivanov, accompanied by a range of local musicians.

The classic Vina Annapurna Caesar salad.

“We had a fantastic dinner at Vina Annapurna, from the plate of charcuterie and cheese to the lightest mousse au chocolat I ever had. We had really good advice on the wine, and we had the pleasure to meet the chef at the end of our dinner. The service was irreproachable and we will definitely come back for our next trip to Les Gets.” – Marie-Sophie B

Vina Annapurna also enjoys a stunning menu created by our Michelin-trained executive chef,Antony Trezy. The menu is carefully designed and beautifully varied, ranging from tapas-style starters to a tasty burger, or the classic Vina Annapurna Caesar salad. Alongside the fantastic food you’ll also find a magnificent wine list, coffee selection and cocktails. Plus, a kids’ menu and a very affordable €17.50 plat du jour during the day make the Vina Annapurna not only popular with locals after a quick bite at lunch time, but as a destination for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. The Autumn menu is up and running tomorrow, on 18th September, and we’re happy to tell you its carefully selected collection of dishes doesn’t disappoint.

This summer saw the addition of a beautiful new terrace.

“We stumbled into Vina Annapurna as there was nowhere else open in Les Gets as we were out of season. We were well rewarded – fabulous food and reasonably priced. Double bubble! Friendly service too. Menu limited as out of season but everything looked great. Good wine list too and tables or comfy sofas to lounge in.” – Cwtch2017

“We are delighted to reach first place first place on TripAdvisor, as it really rewards us for our work.” Says our restaurant director, Emmanuel Lachenal, “This first year allowed us to refine our concept to have a successful restaurant today. For this winter we will keep the same formula as this summer, opening every day for lunch and dinner, and serving our great value menu of the day. We’re looking forward to keeping up the high standards of cuisine and service well into the future.”

Fine wines, cocktails, coffees, the bar is equipped for all your favourite drinks!

“We visited this smart restaurant set in a new development. There is an excellent wine list and comfy seating for drinks pre-dinner. The food is beautiful fresh European style, quite unlike most places in Les Gets. The prices were very reasonable for such high quality. Very tasty cod with beautiful arrangement of veg and one of the best tart tatins ever.” – Busby22bee

This autumn, Vina Annapurna will be open from 12pm – 2pm and 7pm – 10pm from Wednesday to Sunday, and daily from mid-December. If you’re in Les Gets over the next few months we’d love to see you and hear what you think of the autumn menu! We’re also really happy to announce that Tania will be back with a selection of friends to to provide the soundtrack to your dinner on the following dates:

19th September: Tania Chante des Notes + Joachim Expert (piano) & Claude Bakubama (bass)

14th November:Tania Chante des Notes & Taofik Farah (guitar)
19th December:Tania Chante des Notes & Le Clan des Dijonnais (piano, double bass, percussion)

We’d like to say a huge thank you to the entire team at Vina Annapurna for another incredible summer of fine dining, music and exceptional customer service. We couldn’t be more proud to have such a delightful establishment in one of our most renowned developments.

Les Gets to host 2022 MTB World Championships

There’s a lot of great stuff going on in Alpine Lodges’ home resorts at the moment. Just a few months ago Courchevel announced it’ll be hosting the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, and now Les Gets also has some exciting news; the resort will be hosting the 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, as well as at least four World Cup races over the next three summers!

As a world-renowned mountain biking resort, Les Gets has a rich history of hosting mountain biking events. For the past three years, mountain bike world tour and competition series, Crankworx, has stolen the show, but the last time Les Gets hosted a world cup event was in 2002, followed by the World Championships in 2004. The standalone World Championship is a huge event in the mountain biking calendar, where the best riders in the world battle it out over two days and the fastest is crowned World Champion. The World Cup is a series of races that take place in different resorts across the world throughout the summer, with notable stop-offs including Fort William in Scotland, Vallnord in Andorra and Mont Sainte Anne in Canada. At the end of the series, the winner is the person who has gained the most points over the season.

Les Gets is no stranger to hosting downhill mountain bike races. Photo: Omar Pistamiglio / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

The UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and the Word Cup races each include downhill and cross country races, so there’s something for everyone, but in Les Gets we’re predicting downhill will be the real crowd pleaser. Both events will see keen mountain bikers from all over the world flock to Les Gets to watch the action and ride its world-famous trails.

Here are the provisional World Cup race dates over the next four summers:
  • 13th – 14th July 2019: Downhill and Cross Country World Cup races.
  • 19th – 20th September 2020: Downhill and Cross Country World Cup Finals.
  • 2021: Les Gets is currently a candidate to organise and host the Downhill and Cross Country World Cup Finals.
  • 24th – 28th August 2022: Downhill and Cross Country WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

That’s right. Just next summer the Les Gets will be filled with some of the world’s best mountain bikers and keen spectators in what promises to be an action-packed few days of mind blowing riding. We’re sure there will be lots of action off the trails as well; those mountain bikers aren’t often known for their partying but no doubt Les Gets will be putting on some spectacular evening events, live music acts and big brand bike tests. We can’t wait to see what the resort puts together in terms of race tracks, either.

If you’re interested in a new home in Les Gets, we’re currently reserving off-plan in our latest Les Gets development, Kinabalu, and we have a small number of completed apartments available in our Annapurna residence, where home owners will benefit from an in-house spa and bistro. Get in touch with our Les Gets office for more details.

What’s new in Les Gets for winter 2018/19?

It’s September which means it’s officially time to start getting excited about winter! Les Gets is one of our favourite resorts for its picture postcard village feel with family-friendly ski-in / ski-out access, but it’s far from a sleepy ski town. Les Gets really comes to life in the winter, with exciting events for adults and kids alike, some incredible skiing and exceptional bars and restaurants. There’s always something happening, be it a new event, a new restaurant or updates to the ski area. Here’s all the new additions we’ve got to look forward to this winter.

A Folie Douce for the Portes du Soleil

Part of the massive Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil ski area, Les Gets is just a short ski away from Avoriaz, which this winter will be the home of a brand new Folie Douce. Providing the world’s most iconic mountain restaurant experience, at the Folie Douce you can expect daily live music, cabaret shows, an electric atmosphere, and top-notch food and drink.

New Opening Dates

Les Gets is always one of the first Portes du Soleil resorts to offer summer mountain biking, opening its bike park at weekends from the end of May, and this year it’s taking the sentiment to winter. Providing we have the snow conditions, Les Gets will open at the weekends from the 24th November, which is even earlier than the Portes du Soleil’s highest and most snow-sure resort, Avoriaz. Fingers crossed for early snowfalls!

Winter Lounge Music Festival

The Les Gets Lounge Music Festival is a cool and casual music festival that takes place in the village over two weeks in August. This March will see the first ever Winter Lounge Music Festival, featuring a range of genre-spanning musical performances and intimate concerts every day throughout the town’s bars and restaurants. You’ll have a huge range to pick from every day, making for excellent après sessions and atmospheric dinners out; the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy the spring weather!

The Lounge Music Festival is a big part of summer in Les Gets, and now it will be in the winter, too. Photo: V Ductrettet / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

Vina Annapurna’s First Winter

Our first restaurant in Les Gets, Vina Annapurna, is busy preparing for its first winter. The restaurant has been open all summer, serving a delicious menu created with the best regional and seasonal products and winter will be no different. Located in our prestigious Annapurna residence in the centre of Les Gets, this winer Vina Annapurna will be offering delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as a fantastic wine and cocktail selection. We can tell you the food is absolutely incredible and we’re really excited for you to try it!

Vina Annapurna offers an incredible selection of regional and seasonal produce.

Les 100 Ciels d’Hiver

Another summer event transitioning to winter, Les 100 Ciels is a week-long collection of wellness-themed workshops, seminars, classes and treatments that encourages us all to relax and take care of ourselves. This winter, Les 100 Ciels d’Hiver will be bringing the same concept to the snow. Taking place at the end of January, there will be lots of wellbeing options to choose from, taking place both on and off the snow.

New Winter E-Bike Tracks

As winter e-biking grows in popularity, Les Gets is getting ahead of the trend. This winter the resort plans to open a permanent ‘fat bike’ track between the summit of Mont Chery and the alpages of Mont Caly. Perfect for everyone from keen mountain bikers to complete first timers, electric fat bikes (as you can probably guess) have fat tyres that grip the snow and an electric motor that makes those uphill sections much more manageable. Look out for free winter e-bike demos and taster sessions at the foot of the pistes throughout the winter.

A New Piste

Les Gets is always working on making its ski area more accessible so as many people as possible can explore the resort. This winter will see the opening of a new blue piste in the Perrieres sector, which starts at the Perrieres car park at the bottom of town. The new blue run will allow skiers and snowboarders to easily return to the base of the Express Perrieres chairlift, which will not only open up new possibilities to intermediates and beginners, but also disperse piste traffic, and provide easier access to the car park and residences in the Perrieres area.

If any of this sounds appealing to you and you think you’s like to invest in a new home in Les Gets, we’re currently reserving off-plan in our new Les Gets residence, Kinabalu. Kinabalu is a centrally-located collection of one- to six-bedroom apartments with an in-house spa, restaurant and concierge service. Get in touch with our team in Les Gets for more details.

10 Unmissable things to see and do this summer in Les Gets

Les Gets is the perfect example of a small mountain town that’s grown to attract visitors and residents from all over the world, but still retains its charming Alpine atmosphere. While already well-known winter destination, Les Gets’ summers are starting to catch the eye of more and more mountain bikers, hikers and families as a summer holiday haven as well. Namely because of its incredible array of events and attractions over the warmer months. Here’s our pick of the best.

Crankworx is one of the main events of the European mountain biking calendar and it’s definitely a spectacle not to be missed! Did you know one of Les Gets’ main attractions is that it’s home to the Museum of Mechanical Music? This unique museum holds a fascinating collection of working devices documenting the colourful history of automated music before the birth of tapes and CDs. It’s also why Les Gets hosts the International Festival of Mechanical Music every other summer. Pass’Portes du Soleil is one of the biggest weekends of the summer across all the resorts in the Portes du Soleil, and anyone can take part. Thousands of entrants every year will spend a weekend riding mountain bikes around the twelve resorts of the PDS, something which can only take half a day on skis but is a little more tiring on a bike! A great way to explore the area and challenge yourself, the event also includes a kids’ trail and a walking trail, as well as a salon where you can test lots of different bikes, so there’s something for everyone.

4 – Lounge Music Festival, 6th – 18th August

Now in its eighth year, the Lounge Music Festival is fast-becoming a Les Gets institution. A laid-back and relaxed two weeks of music using the bars, restaurants and outdoor spaces of the village as its venue, this is a great chance to discover a huge range of new artists. Performers range from local bands and singers to groups from all over the world – and it’s all free. The Lounge Music Festival always syncs up with a performance from a big French star; this year it’s Slimane, winner of the fifth series of The Voice France.

5 – Local Produce Galore

Les Gets is home to a whole host of artisans and craftspeople, who make everything from cheese to furniture. Les Gets is also home to lots of working farms that you can visit and purchase home-made produce such as cheeses, cured meats, honey and confitures. La Ferme de Caroline even puts on casual evenings where you can enjoy a meal made with ingredients raised, grown and prepared on the farm.

6 – Wibit Aquapark

Nestled among the pistes and bike trails of Les Gets is a charming little swimming lake that’s perfect for family picnics and sunbathing. Over the summer months it’s also home to Wibit Aquapark, a giant inflatable obstacle course that takes up residence in the lake. Amazing fun for adults and kids alike, good times are guaranteed.

7 – Golf

Did you know Les Gets is home to a beautiful mountain golf club? It might not be what the town is most well-known for but for golf fans it’s a massive plus. After all, who wouldn’t want to play a few holes with the added bonus of beautiful mountain views, balmy temperatures and maybe even a few marmots on the green?

8 – Hiking for Everyone

Les Gets has a huge range of hiking trails and is linked to the massive Portes du Soleil area by the expansive lift network. Beautiful wildflowers, getting to share the footpaths with friendly Alpine cows and incredible panoramic views of Mont Blanc are just a few of the things that make hiking in Les Gets such a pleasure. Trails range from the family-friendly to more extreme scrambles, so there’s something for everyone.
